Dub Siren
2021 | A combination dub siren / delay unit commissioned by Elijah Minnelli
A personal challenge to
create electronics with no
programmable element, I worked
closely with a dub musician to
create a bespoke addition to his
DJ / production setup.
The dub siren sound can be
augmented with potentiometer
controls for modulation,
waveform, pitch and frequency.
The delay unit also has controls
for length of delay and number of
repeats.
Though the siren sound is pipedthrough the delay unit by default,there is an auxiliary input so the delay module can be used independently.
The dub siren sound is generated
by two 555 timers, with the
resulting output piped into a
PT2399 for the delay effect.
Because this product is meant to
be used in live DJ performances,
a lot of care went into ensuring
the enclosure was sturdy and
reasonably beer proof.
